Adonis

Adonis

This is a beautiful take on the ancient, rare variety Pineau d’Aunis from the Coteaux-du-Loir, which we consider the more approachable of Renaud's two red wines. The grapes come from a combination of vines that are both young and old, with the oldest reaching up to 80 years. The vines themselves are planted over a complex blend of clay, limestone and silex soils.

In the cellar, the grapes were fermented mostly as whole bunches for a couple of weeks before being pressed off to old barrels for a year of élevage. It sees a shorter length of time than the L'Enchanteresse, but long enough to make a deliciously lightly perfumed red.

Tasting notes

This is a very elegant, bright, compact and delicious wine. Notes of wild strawberry and red berry, with hints of liquorice and cracked pepper. It has a dry finish, but can be considered very easy going and more thought-provoking than most light-bodied reds.
