Amphores

Well, well. What is this silky number we have here?! Let me tell you. This is a sublime, easy going red from Bugey. A pitch perfect example of the native Mondeuse variety. A perfect example of deliciousness from Florie and Adrien. Just 1800 bottles made.

Grown on the Croisette, a steep hillside at the foot of a limestone cliff, where heavy clay is also present. The vines are between 30-65 years out, and find their roots in extremely stony soils, which enables Mondeuse to thrive. Maceration is split equally between 50/50 whole bunches and destemmed in steel tanks, lasting for three weeks. The juice is then pressed and aged for one year in terracotta amphorae. This is real, unfiltered wine, with verve.

Tasting notes

An inviting purple colour in the glass. Beautiful tension captured from the rocky soils, with juicy dark fruit at its core. A nice bit of crunch from red and black berries. Some complexity, notably from the spice and pepper, but its finesse shine through. The light side of medium bodied. Lovely stuff.
