Frauenberg - Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir from a parcel of fifty year old vines surrounded by forest high in the hills above the village of Dambach-la-Ville. This is a slightly wild, sumptuous wine and has some ooomph.
The North facing vines are planted over a complex mix of granite and manganese, lending freshness and a deep, stony minerality. The grapes were fermented as whole bunches for a fortnight, before being pressed to a single oak barrel for a year of rest.
Tasting notes
Such a lovely, light bodied red that is extremely charming. The red berry fruit tastes wild and slightly bitter, but all the better for it. It has fresh acidity and delicate notes of smoke on the finish. A far cry from the Pinot Noir found in other parts of France.
