L'Enchanteresse

L'Enchanteresse

A red wine from Central Loire that appears broody, yet so elegant and subtle, but wait, it's not Cabernet Franc? I'll have some of that! This is a wonderful expression of rare variety Pineau d'Aunis that brings so much joy. It's medium bodied, peppery and magic. Let's face it, it even has a sexy name.

Taken from a few different small parcels on vines that range from 50 to beyond 100 years of age. The juice sees three weeks of maceration followed by ageing of 12-24 months on lees in 400-litre demi muids and then sees time in bottle. Renaud Guettier's works wonders with Pineau d'Aunis, so for a variety you don't see too often, it's about time more people tried it.

Tasting notes

It's well framed, fragrant nose has ripe fruit structure that is soft and subtle, yet offers a hint of bitterness from a combination of raspberry and blackberries. Yes, there is a little spice and warmth on the finish, but this is a seriously pure red wine that warrants your attention. Who knew the combo of cranberry juice and Ribena could taste so fine!
