A great example of under the radar, quality white wines that Spain are capable of making with their indigenous varieties. Less emphasis on oak and focus on purity, means we get a much cleaner, more interesting and textured style of white wines. Exemplified in this instance by producer Celler Credo.

Located in the Penedés region (Catalonia) close to Barcelona, they predominantly focus on the indigenous Xarel-lo grape. Historically, known for its prominent role in the production of Cava - mostly geared towards large commercial quantities (... and usually uninspiring fizz) - there has been an encouraging pivot in recent years from an increasing number of producers towards still-wine production. Providing a glimpse of its potential as a single varietal white wine that benefits from high altitude and a soil type that allows it to thrive. Rejoice!

Celler Credo work with the local variety Xarel-lo in vineyards cultivated within the confines of organic principles and a biodynamic ecosystem, this is a terroir driven winery producing natural wines. That means working with the lees, a bit of skin maceration, no chemical interference amongst the vines and wines made with no added sulphites. Minimal intervention, which is always fine with Roy.
