Envinate
As a premise, four uni friends coming together with a focus on producing Atlantic-influenced wines based in opposing corners of Spain, is pretty cool. Having evolved from a winemaking consultancy project post graduation to producing wines ranging from distinctive parcels on The Canary Islands to Ribeira Sacra, we'll certainly back that kind of innovative thinking. Despite juggling a number of wine projects and facilities under the Envinate name, it's fantastic that a natural winemaking philosophy guides them individually, particularly with the different labels and grapes being used. For us, however, we are solely focussed on the Táganan and Benje brands, spearheaded by Roberto Santana in Tenerife.
Not only is his name darn cool, but these are up there with some of the interesting, unique wines that express proper character from the Listan Blanco grape. Proper wilderness, depth and precision. Truly tasty stuff that reflects a real showcase for the diversity that Spain has to offer, notably when you consider it would be hard placed to find these types of wines made in France or Italy. Lively, nutty and textured, which gives a wonderful tangy and complex flavour. Spellbinding.
