Arbois Chardonnay
When you are in a position to refer to the mighty Stéphane Tissot as an "uncle", the stakes are most definitely raised. As they should be for any grape juice coming out of the Jura. Thankfully, this family estate are up to the task.
From vines located in the picturesque Arbois and Montigny-lès-Arsures, the wine is composed of a blend of 2-3 parcels, which are a mix of old and young vines. This is alpine chardonnay grown on clay-limestone soils. Vinification is natural with indigenous yeasts. Produced in whole bunches that are gently pressed, before fermentation and ageing takes place in barrels for 18 months.
Such good value for a wine that gives plenty. A lovely, vibrant introduction to the beautiful range of Domaine Fumey Chatelain.
Tasting notes
This is a seriously good drop with wonderfully tamed acidity and tension. A generous, ripe vintage which results in good depth and freshness in the glass. Ample apple, yellow-flesh fruit and nutty flavours are abound, which is a typical hallmark of Jura chardonnay. Slight almond notes are warmly embraced by a creamy finish. Well done. Very well done.
