Lamilla

Lamilla

Forget everything you think you know about Dolcetto before even looking at this wine. This is aged Dolcetto - current vintage of 2018 - from a producer grounded in tradition, of old methods, and of pure dedication to this grape. It is rustic, complex and showing beautiful development in the glass.

A blend of two parcels of Dolcetto, from vines planted by Maria Luisa’s father dating back 70 years. One parcel is red clay soil called 'terra rosso' (makes up about 20% of the blend), while the other parcel is on 'tuffo', a calcareaous soil with volcanic influence, which makes up the majority of the blend. It's interesting because the red clay lends more concentration, more power and tannin to the wine, whilst the 'tuffo' vines have a more delicate and elegant influence.

The juice undergoes fermentation inside sixty year old concrete tanks for 18- 20 days, and the wine rests on skins for the duration. Following pressing, the wine was racked into steel where it stayed for 18 months prior to bottling. No fining or filtration. The wine is then aged in bottle for a minimum of 3 years. This is a beautifully rounded wine that is infused with the energy of two youthful souls. Bliss!

Tasting notes

Don't let your nose confuse you. It may comes across old and dusty, akin to a top shelf, but just take that first sip. This is unreal. Far far above the table wine Dolcetto that you've enjoyed on holiday. It effortlessly balances fruit and tertiary flavours. So soft, with no tannin whatsoever. This is really good! This could easily be top class Langhe Nebbiolo!
