Benje Blanco

Benje Blanco

You can practically smell the volcanic soil when you pour this wine. The taste then sends you to another level. There is an incredible wild side with its funky, mischievous tone. It simply knocks it out the park.

From vineyards high on the North-western volcanic slopes at an altitude of 1,000 metres, this is pretty special. Interestingly, 75% of the fruit is pressed directly off the skins, while the other 25% undergoes skin contact for between 14-40 days. It all adds to the intrigue and helps develop the sexy colouring. The wine is then aged for 8 months in a mix of concrete (60%) and old French barriques (40%) on the lees.

Sure, it challenges your perception about wine and its drinkability, but make no mistake, this is proper wine making.

Tasting notes

Mouth watering stuff. So expressive. Listán Blanco in its finest incarnation. Grown from a single small plot of vines, it's savoury and nutty, yet bursting with salinity and herb aromas. The racy acidity and nervy undertone gets better with each glass as the liquid warms. There is plenty of complexity with almondy bitterness and heavy citrus flavours coming together nicely. Deserves your attention.
