Bourgogne Aligoté Skin
The AMI boys have come up trumps again, delving firmly into skin contact territory. They are playing with us here and having fun drawing out a wonderful expression of Aligoté, which is very dynamic and amplifies the aromatic spectrum of this grape.
Yes, it's more cloudy and paler than the traditional 'orange' or skinsy wines you may have come across, though don't let that fool you. This has real style, so let's join Alice down the skin contact rabbit hole.
From a 45 year old vineyard of Aligoté. 60% of the juice is macerated for 15 days on the skins and the remaining is topped up with direct press juice. It sees maturation for 10 months in stainless steel. Unfiltered, unfined and only a minimal dose of sulphur added.
Tasting notes
Ahhhh, good ol skin contact. Slightly chilled works best, but you don't want to dial down the aromas and taste too much. Tangy flavours, floral hints and a bit chalky. Apricot and peach scented fruit. Refreshing acidity and a crunchy texture. A serious offering from AMI, but one that shows an alternative side to Aligoté. We love it!
