Cocagne

Cocagne

A beautifully refined, smooth expression of Gamay covering two sites, including an unusual parcel of volcanic 'Pierres Bleues' (blue rock), of the Saint Amour cru in Northern Beaujolais. Just 2500 bottles are made.

From a place called "La Gagère” on the heights of the appellation. The vines are 65 years old, grown at 450m altitude on blue stony, ancient volcanic rock. The grapes are fully destemmed, which is increasingly uncommon in Beaujolais. Fermentation takes place in steel, with higher temperatures than normal to extract the colour and layers they are seeking in the wine. After a month on the skins the wine is pressed and moved to 400L old barrels where it ages for between 6-12 months before bottling.

Tasting notes

This wines carries a characterful, somewhat silky freshness. Yes, it has a grainy vibe, but it's juicy, peppery and crunchy. Good structure behind its fruit. There is a nice density to the juice. A different take on Bojo.
