Sassella Stella Retica
Grown from vineyards slightly higher than the Grumello, we are now in even deeper Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) heaven. 'Sassella’ in local dialect means rock, and this is the part of the valley where the terraces are at their steepest and shallowest.
This has character. Almost like an older brother to the Grumello, this is more serious. The wine spends four months macerating on its skins and a total of 15 months in a combination of old acacia and chestnut botti and concrete, before bottling and time resting. Timeless!
Tasting notes
Such a wonderfully refined take on Nebbiolo in that classic Valtellina style. Dreamy and elegant as you take the first sip. The red fruit is balanced by pitch perfect minerality. Tannin is there, but it's gentle, and it calls you back for more. Highly impressive. Give in to temptation...
