El Carrascal
This is one of Esmeralda’s single cru wines from a specific vineyard, which lies at higher altitude in a sun-drenched, plateau-shaped area with distinctive gravelly soils.
El Carrascal represents the most powerful and muscular expression of the range. Grapes undergo a short skin maceration before passing through a vertical press. They are later fermented and aged for 6 months on fine lees in 500-litre clay vessels. The wine is then bottled unfiltered.
Tasting notes
Showcasing all the hallmarks of the Verdejo grape, this is a step-up from the entry level Santyuste. It has real power and structure, with a dense, almost waxy consistency. Combining balanced aromatics and herbal notes with lingering sweetness of peach and citrus flavours. This could easily be made from the best parts of the Northern Rhone, yet its salty finish gives it real identity. A slow burner best drank chilled. Beautifully made.
