Vagabond
Benoit's wines are a curious find in this part of France. None more so than Vagabond. Yet, while this feels more serious than the majority of offerings from the region, there is plenty of enjoyment to be found here. Humble, yes, but a captivating expression of Gamay.
Grown on the south-side of Beaujolais, Vagabond covers a number of parcels and terroirs up to seventy five years old. This spent two weeks as whole bunches in concrete, before being pressed off to cuve for a year’s rest. A pure, wholesome wine that has plenty of life.
Tasting notes
Despite the warmth of the vintage, there is plenty of dark fruit, albeit some bitterness on the finish. It's broody, but not too complex. Allow it to breathe a little and you'll be rewarded. Light the log fire and drink up. Delicious!
